Before you interact

Azimuth is the clockwise angle from north to a line of travel or sight. On this page, 0° means north, 90° means east, 180° means south, and 270° means west.

Use the image workflow when you already have a north-up screenshot or plan image. Use the interactive map when you want geographic context and a simple two-point Leaflet measurement over Bing Hybrid imagery.

If JavaScript is unavailable, the page still tells you the measurement convention: azimuth = arctangent of east-west displacement over north-south displacement, reported clockwise from north. The interactive widgets themselves require JavaScript.

Instructions, attribution, and limits

Image workflow: upload a north-up image, click once to set the origin, move to aim the line, and click again to lock the endpoint. The tool reports the angle clockwise from north.

Map workflow: click once to set the origin and again to set the destination. The map is rendered with Leaflet and uses a fixed Bing Hybrid basemap.

Terminology
  • Azimuth: clockwise angle from north to the measured direction.
  • Back azimuth: the opposite direction, 180° away from the forward azimuth.
  • Distance: straight-line separation between the two chosen map points.
